City information: Geneva

Next to Zürich, Geneva is the largest city in Switzerland, the largest city in the French speaking part of the country. It sits very close to the French border and actually has a transportation road from the Geneva airport to the border that is sovereign to France. In general, Geneva is a rather expensive city so you can expect rates for the Euro 2008 hotels to be somewhat high. A survey from 2007 showed Geneva to have the second highest quality of living in the world (next to Zürich).

Besides football and the Euro 2008 championship this summer, there are of course plenty of things to do and see in Geneva. Up-scale shopping is excellent, naturally, as well as dining. The waterfront of Lake of Geneva is a beautiful site. Why not also stop by the cozy old quarters for a stroll and perhaps an espresso or pass by the United Nations headquarters which is located here.

The official Euro 2008 stadium in Geneva is named Stade de Genève and is a rather newly built stadium, finished only in 2003. It is a very modern stadium with room for about 30,000 spectators. Getting to and from here is very easy as Stade de Genève has its own railway station. It also sits close to the motorway, 12 kilometers from the airport close to the French border, and has a large parking garage.
